The Familiar is a video artwork that questions the familiar elements in the daily lives of highly productive urban citizens. Having previously lived in small towns and currently residing in a busy city, I looked to decontextualize and recontextualize elements of the transit system in Downtown Toronto and discovered their poetic properties outside of its urban context. The video challenges the viewers to reconsider the environments that they consider as familiar and reflect upon their relationship with their surroundings.
